A new flame retardant (APTES-APP) containing phosphorus(P)/nitrogen(N)/silicon(Si) was prepared by cation exchange reaction between the ammonium ion (NH+4) of ammonium polyphosphate (APP,n=200) and the amino group (—NH2) of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES).FT-IR,XPS,SEM and TG demonstrated that APTES-APP flame retardant was successfully prepared,and then added to epoxy resin (EP) with ammonium polyphosphate (APP,n>1000).10wt% (APP∶APTES-APP=4∶1) of dosage increased the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of the EP composite to 26 vol%,and passed the V-0 rating of vertical burning test (UL-94).
