The hybrid superabsorbent composites on the base of natural chlorella were synthesized by grafting acrylic acid on the surface of chlorella in aqueous solution,potassium persulfate as free radical initiator and N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide as crosslinker.The structure of the product was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT_IR),scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).The effects of factors such as the mass ratio of monomer to chlorella,the degree of monomer neutralization,the content of initiator and crosslinker on swelling properties of chlorella@PAA composite materials were investigated.The results shown that the swelling and deswelling behavior of the composites were dependent on temperature and concentration of salt solution.Moreover,the composites had good water absorption and retention properties,which made it had broad application prospects in the industrial or agricultural fields.
