The adsorption characteristics of Cationic Red X-GRL (CR X-GRL) from aqueous solution by using dried spirodela polyrrhiza (hereafter simply as spirodela polyrrhiza) as the adsorbent were investigated.The effects of adsorption time,spirodela polyrrhiza dosage,solution pH,temperature and coexisting ions on adsorption behavior were explored.Adsorption kinetic and thermodynamic studies were also carried out.The results showed that the spirodela polyrrhiza adsorbed CR X-GRL in a short time.The kinetic data fitted the pseudo-second-order model well.Intra-particle diffusion was not the only rate controlling step.It was observed that the optimal pH values ranged between 3 and 10 in the CR X-GRL adsorption process.Adsorption isotherms for spirodela polyrrhiza were fitted the Langmuir model more effectively than other models.Thermodynamics parameters indicated that the adsorption was a spontaneous and exothermic process and the absorbance decreased with the increase of temperature.The adsorbance decreased slightly when there were Na+ in the solution,while Cl- and SO2-4 had no effects on the adsorption process.
