Preparation and characterization of EG flame retardant porous silicone rubber

Abstract

Expandable graphite(EG) was used as a flame retardant and liquid silicone rubber as a matrix to prepare an EG flame-retardant porous silicone rubber material by hydrosilylation.The oxygen index of the porous silicone rubber was tested,and when EG of 5% was added,it was 38.4%,compared with pure porous silicone rubber,it increased by 47.7%.Smoke density test shown that the addition of EG was not conducive to the reduction of smoke density.Cone calorimetry result shown that the appropriate addition of EG can delay the ignition time and reduced the total heat release of porous silicone rubber.When 15% was added,the total heat release was reduced by 56.67%.TG analysis showed that the addition of EG significantly delayed the decomposition temperature of the branched and main chains of the porous silicone rubber.When 15% was added,the branching and main chain decomposition fractions were delayed by 21℃ and 44℃,respectively.
