Study on the effect of melt grafting of MAH with LDPE on the property of PC/PE alloy

Abstract

Maleric anhydride was introduced on the LDPE as a compatibilizer to increase the intermiscibility of PC and PE.It can be proved that MAH group was grafted to the LDPE successfully through FT-IR.The PC/PE alloys with the compatibilization of LDPE-MAH were evaluated through test of SEM,MFR,mechanical properties,heat deflection temperature and water absorption rate.The results showed that the intermiscibility of PC/PE alloys was raised.Besides,mechanical properties and heat deflection temperature of the PC/PE alloys increased while MFR and water absorption rate declined as the content of LDPE-MAH increased firstly.Nevertheless,mechanical properties and heat deflection temperature of the PC/PE alloys declined a little while MFR began to increase and water absorption rate remained stable when the content of LDPE-MAH surpassed 5wt%.
