Preparation of boron nitride fiber by organic precursor method

Abstract

Boron nitride (BN) fibers is a kind of ceramic fiber with excellent heat resistance and dielectric properties,and the current main synthetic method is the organic precursor conversion method.In this paper,BN fibers with uniform diameter were prepared by melt spinning process,non-melting and force-thermal coupled pyrolysis treatment with polytrimethylamine borazine as precursor.The microstructure,crystalline properties,elemental composition,and porosity of BN fibers were characterized in detail using scanning electron microscopy (SEM),X-ray diffraction (XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),and BET specific surface area and other means.The results showed that the BN fibers obtained by heat treatment at 1600℃ had a smooth surface,complete weave structure,and tensile strength of up to 640.3MPa,while the BN fibers obtained by heat treatment at 1000℃ had high porosity and the maximum specific surface area of up to 362.64m2/g.
