Abstract

Electrocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production is a sustainable energy storage technology and a crucial strategy to reduce carbon emissions.Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted extensive attention in electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution due to their large specific surface area, tunable porosity, diversified structure adjustment and simple modification routes. This work reviewed the synthesis methods, structure adjustment of Co-based MOFs (Co-MOFs) and their derivatives,as well as the influence of microstructure on the catalytic activity, stability, and hydrogen evolution capability. The results showed that Co-MOFs and their derivatives exhibited superior electrochemical hydrogen evolution activity than traditional catalysts. In addition,we proposed the design strategy of high-performance catalysts, and looked forward to their application prospect in electrocatalytic hydrogen production.
