A novel flame retardant (K-HBPE) containing silicon and nitrogen was prepared from hyperbranched polyester (HBPE) and γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550).FT-IR and SEM confirmed the synthesis of K-HBPE,which was then blended with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) into polypropylene (PP).With 30% (K-HBPE∶APP=1∶1) of the intumescent flame retardant,the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of PP composite was increased to 33.2% and the UL-94 test achieved V-0 rating.The results showed that K-HBPE with APP had an excellent synergistic flame retardant effect.
