In recent years, oil and water separation technology has been improved, among which gravity-driven filtration technology can quickly separate two kinds of liquids because oil and water are not miscible.Compared with other traditional methods that require energy, this method is more economical. However, the emulsion system is relatively stable and the particle size of the emulsion droplets is small, which increases the difficulty of separation. In order to achieve gravity separation, emulsion separation materials should have high porosity and suitable pore size, and should also have special wettability for the oil or water phases in the emulsion.Different emulsion separation materials and the factors affecting the emulsion separation were introduced, and introduced the corresponding modification technology and functional strategy. The existing problems of emulsion separation membrane under gravity filtration were pointed out,and prospected its development direction.
