Low molecular weight chitosan modified silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared through ultraviolet (UV) irradiation used low molecular weight chitosan prepared by H2O2 oxidative degradation as the reductant and surface modification agent.The samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).The results showed that the LMCS-Ag were spherical.The antibacterial activity of LMCS-Ag was tested for against S.aureus and E.coli bacteria.It was found that LMCS-Ag exhibited excellent antibacterial property.The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of LMCS-Ag on E.coli were 4μg/mL and 8μg/mL.The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of LMCS-Ag on S.aureus were 8μg/mL and 16μg/mL.β-galactosidase activity assay and E.coli morphology characterization (SEM) indicated that AgNPs could destroy the integrality of cytoplasmic membrane,leading to leakage of cytoplasm.
