Preparation and photocatalytic property of ZnO/MgO nanocomposite

Abstract

A nanocomposite ZnO/MgO was synthesized by a microwave-assisted coprecipitation method.The nanocomposite was characterized by XRD,TEM,FT-IR and UV-Vis spectra.The photocatalytic properties of the samples with different zinc magnesium ratio and ZnO and MgO synthesized by the same method were carried out using methlyene blue (MB) as the target degradation product.The results shown that the samples were composed of cubic ZnO and amorphous MgO.The size of the photocatalyst was uniform of about 40 nm,and had good absorption performance in the ultraviolet region.The photocatalytic degradation experiment of MB showed that the ZnO/MgO catalyst had the best photocatalytic performance when the ratio of zinc to magnesium was 2∶1.
