Preparation and property of PMMA-PU composite polyurethane elastomer

Abstract: Polyurethane prepolymers terminated with acrylates(PUA) were synthesized from the reaction between the prepolymers prepared by diisocyanate(IPDI) with poly-tetrahydrofuran(PTMG) and functional agent 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA).PUA was served as the base resin.A series of crosslinked composites were synthesized by free radical polymerization of PUA prepolymers with methy methacrylate (MMA).The afforded PMMA-PU composites were characterized by FT-IR,XRD,SEM and mechanical measurements.Results showed that there existed phase separation in PMMA-PU composites and thus phase separations was increased with MMA contents increasing.The tensile strength of PMMA-PU increased with MMA contents increasing,while the elongation at break decreasing.
