Functionalization and characterization of SWCNTs with soy protein isolate

Abstract: Nanosized composites (SPI-O-SWCNTs) were obtained by functionalization of acid-purified single-walled carbon nanotubes (O-SWCNTs) with biosurfactant soy protein isolate (SPI).SPI-O-SWCNTs and their performance were tested and characterized.Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that SPI effectively improved the dispersibility of O-SWCNTs.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and raman spectra analysis showed that the SPI adsorbed onto the surface of O-SWCNTs by physical action,resulting in a little increase of C atom confusion on the surface of O-SWCNTs and a decrease of electrochemical performance.The vitro drug release experiments and cytotoxicity tests showed that SPI-modified O-SWCNTs can improve the drug release effect and reduce the toxicity to cells.
