Abstract: Anionic random copolymer microspheres [P(St-co-AA)] were synthesized by soap-free emulsion polymerization of styrene (St) and acrylic acid (AA).Then,hollow SiO2 microspheres were fabricated by a sol-gel method using the anionic polymer microspheres as templates,in which the templates were not treated by any post-treatment processes,such as separation,centrifugation and surface modification.The effects of ammonia dosage,tetraethyl silicate (TEOS) dosage,the different amount of acrylic acid (AA) on microspheres were investigated,and the prepared microspheres were characterized.The results showed that the microspheres had excellent dispersibility,and there were no solid SiO2 particles in the system.The microsphere size was uniform,the surface morphology was raspberry,and the wall thickness of microspheres can be controlled within the range of 5~30nm.
