Preparation of PU/SiO2-HDI hybrid microcapsule and its applying in self-healing coating

Abstract: Polyurethane/silicon dioxide-hexamethylene diisocyanate (PU/SiO2-HDI) hybrid microcapsules loaded with hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) as core materials were prepared via interfacial polymerization and in situ sol-gel method.The effects of three kind of catalytic way,which were acid catalysis,base catalysis and acid-base catalysis on productivity,sealing,heat stability and morphology were discussed.The results indicated that the hybrid microcapsules had superior performance mentioned above,comparing with non-hybridized microcapsules.In addition,microcapsules used acid-base catalysis had the biggest partical size,excellent uniform distribution,as well as excellent productivity,sealing,heat stability,as follows,the productivity was 71.24%,the leakage rate at 168h was12.03%,and initial decomposition temperature was 269.43℃.The microcapsules used acid-base catalysis were embeded in polyurethane (PU) anticorrosion coatings,the results indicated the scratch of formed coating was healed and had no obvious corrosion phenomena by salt spray test during 168h.It can be concluded that the coatings had positive impact on self-healing and anticorrosion.
